Andy Cutko, Chair
Andy and his family have lived in Bowdoinham since 1996. Andy works as an ecologist for the Maine Natural Areas Program. He is a licensed forester, co-author of Natural Landscapes of Maine: A Guide to Natural Communities and Ecosystems, and frequent explorer of Merrymeeting Bay. Andy has volunteered for school sports teams and area land trusts, and he has frequently been conscripted by his wife Kate, the town librarian, to haul boxes of books around town.
David Engler, Treasurer
David Engler and his wife, Annette Mott, moved to Bowdoinham in 1976. He is a retired mechanical engineer who spent his professional career in the pulp & paper and power industries. He now enjoys gardening, his apple orchard, raising chickens and an occasional pig, bee keeping, and various volunteer activities including stove building in Guatemala. He is a member of the Town of Bowdoinham’s Financial Advisory Committee.
Harriet Van Vleck, Secretary
Harriet Van Vleck moved to Bowdoinham in 2012 with her husband Atlee Reilly. She is an ecologist who has worked with the University of Minnesota and The Nature Conservancy using economic, ecological, and cultural analyses to inform broad-scale land use planning. Harriet and Atlee and thei new son Van are very happy to be back in Maine and feel lucky to have found their way to Bowdoinham.
Kathy is a lifelong Mainer but a fairly recent transplant to Bowdoinham, having just arrived in 1999. She has worked in municipal government for over twenty years and has served on numerous boards for various non-profit organizations. Since 1999, she has worked for the City of Lewiston as the City Clerk. When she can, she enjoys volunteering to assist the Bowdoinham library, food bank and school parents group. Kathy has served as a member of the Bowdoinham Board of Appeals for almost ten years. Presently raising a young family in town, Kathy is very interested in working toward the future development of Bowdoinham. In their free time, her family enjoys exploring the coast by land and by sea.
Abby and her partner Jake Galle run Apple Creek Farm which produces certified organic, grass-fed beef, goat and lamb as well as certified organic eggs and poultry (broilers, geese and turkeys). Abby works with new farmers as the course facilitator of MOFGA Farm Beginnings, a whole farm planning course. Abby is the former Director of Educational Programs at MOFGA. Abby now works with both farmers and organizations in grant writing and project management.
Brian and his wife, Luana, moved to Bowdoinham in 1975. Brian operated a land surveying business from 1978 to 2012, employing up to 12 people in Bowdoinham. He is now semi-retired. Brian has served on numerous town land use committees since 1976 and is currently Vice Chair of the Community Development Advisory Committee (CDAC). Fishing, woodworking, gardening and granddaughter, Sadie, are Brian’s passions.
Laurel moved to Bowdoinham with her family in 2003. Besides raising two boys, she works as a custom framer and has an all natural body product line called Laurel’s Line. She was a member of the MSAD75 school board of directors and enjoys volunteering in the schools and in the town of Bowdoinham. In her spare time she can be found at the baseball fields, on a boat or in the garden.
David lived in Bowdoinham and worked as a teacher at Mt Ararat and a carpenter in the 1970’s, before leaving to work internationally until 2004 when he returned. He served on the Selectboard from 2009-2011 and more recently on the Comprehensive Planning Committee. David also volunteers at Bay Day and does water quality testing for Friends of Merrymeeting Bay.
